50 Years of Ministry

Even those among us that have followed and served the Lord all of our lives, can still find themselves in troubling times. This call to action takes us to El Reno Oklahoma, where 83 year old Pastor Jennings lives with his wife. Pastor Jennings served in the ministry for over 50 years until a heart attack prevented him from continuing. The situation the Jennings are facing is a immediate one, in 2007 the couples home was ravaged by a damaging hail storm followed by a catastrophic flood that damaged many homes in the El Reno area. Although the Jennings were able to file a claim for the roof they were not for the flood damage and opted to use the funds to make there home habitable, otherwise everything they had worked for would be gone. INOR was contacted by the couples local insurance agent, who is herself a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. Her concern is the underwriter is going to cancel the Jennings homeowners policy and possibly demand restitution of the funds used on the flood damage, if the roof is not replaced by March 1st 2012.

This is where In Need of Repairs steps in, as this article is being written we have secured the following items:
  • We have received a commitment for all labor cost
  • Cash Donations totaling $650 of our $3000 goal.
  • We have Cap Nails, Gun Nails and Felt pledged.
We are still needing the following items to complete this urgent  request:
  • Drip Edge
  • Shingles
  • Decking if needed after tear-off
  • Construction dumpster
  • Clean up volunteers
  • Monetary Donations
If you you, someone you know or your church can help please contact Ken Ferchau at 405-819-0450 or Kenf@needrepairs.org

A Better View...

Momentum within In Need of Repairs has been going through the roof. This progress would not be possible without the humble, volunteers from our own Westmoore Community Church. Not only do we want to repair our community we want to put a spotlight on those in our community that are willing to selflessly give back. We would like to encourage everyone within the Oklahoma City metro to use the services of the Oklahoma business that give back. Paul Davis of  A Better View recently volunteered on our Operation Warmth and Walk project, his skill, donation and awesome set of tools, made this project possible. Paul's main focus are beautifully crafted iron and wood gates. But his scope of talents range from rustic commercial store builds, FEMA approved storm shelters and large barns. If you, a friend or a family member has been considering a construction project we encourage you to visit with Paul Davis at A Better View.
If you have a business, or would like to volunteer and get involved in this great mission visit www.needrepairs.org for more information.

Completed Operation Warmth & Walk

Friday I posted the latest project INOR was tackling on Saturday February 11th, and I am happy to say that not only is the job complete, the INOR crew was able to fix the homeowners heat unit that had been out for up to three years, replaced the broken hot water tank, with a new larger capacity one. But the action didn't stop there the homeowners previous wheel chair ramp had collapsed and it became difficult for her to even get outside safely. As I mentioned in the previous article thanks to the generous donations of Donnie and Jaylinn Neer, that provided all of the funds required for the ramp, and the donation of the hot tank coming from Mark Latham of Diversified Construction, it was time for our all-star volunteer squad to step in. On Saturday morning the temperature gauge was  sitting right at 23 degrees, but that wasn't going to stop this mission, INOR had 11 volunteers show up to get the job done. Overseen by INOR founder Ken Ferchau, the team worked very quickly to get this homeowner back to independence.

In less than 2 weeks In Need of Repairs, was able to meet with the homeowner, review her needs, secure the materials donations, get volunteer support and finish the job 100%. The total cost spent was $820.28 to fix everything noted and 52 man hours completed this life changing operation.

INOR steps in...

Tomorrows forecast may call for cold temperatures, but that isn't going to stop In Need of Repairs from carrying out the latest mission. This one takes us to south Oklahoma City. Stricken by a wheelchair, Mrs Ruler contacted INOR for help. She reports she has not had hot water or heat since last year, and the wheelchair ramp she once relied upon has collapsed. Mrs Ruler reached out to several organizations in the metro but did not have any luck receiving assistance, until Ken Ferchau with INOR and several local Oklahoma City business stepped up to give Mrs Ruler some relief.

We are happy to announce that today, a new  hot water tank was donated by Mark Latham of Diversified Construction this unit was installed by John Tanner of Hunter Plumbing and Mrs Ruler now has hot water once again. But it doesn't stop there, INOR is scheduled to finish Mrs Ruler's new ADA ramp on Saturday. Donnie & Jaylinn Neer, as well as Paul Davis from A Better View Construction, donated all of the needed materials to complete this job. INOR will begin the ramp build at 8:30 am on Saturday February 11th, the job site is located at 40 SE 39th Street in Oklahoma City. Contact Ken Ferchau at Kenf@needrepairs.org for more.

There is still one piece of this puzzle missing, Mrs Ruler is still without heat. She has a Trane package unit that needs a new circuit board. If you or your company can supply Trane replacement parts, please contact Ken Ferchau at 819-0450 for more details.

INOR Volunteer Meet and Greet

Everyone at INOR, In Need of Repairs, would like to first thank all 21 of the Volunteers that showed up to learn more about our organization. As we suspected Westmoore Community Church, holds some of the most skilled craftsman in our city. These are the type of relationships that will make this mission possible to serve our community. Make no mistake, we do not only need skilled craftsman, we can use volunteers of all skill levels and God given talents. For instance on a large all day project having someone in the food service industry will be a key volunteer position. If you missed it last night you will be able to view the meeting on our YouTube Channel. This is a very new ministry that has gained a lot of ground very quickly, and we look forward to working with everyone to help us fine tune the organization. We ask you share our website .needrepairs.org and our Facebook page with all of your friends and family.

A little thank you

We received a great thank you note from Mohauna Comes, who contacted us on our In Need of Repairs Facebook page. Mohauna is a single mom with a housekeeping business located right here in Oklahoma City. Mohauna did her best DIY fix to get the leaky and costly, water driping to stop, at no avail. That is when she contacted us, and too no surprise our resident rockstar Bill Sims stepped in and with several hours of elbow grease and took care of the problem. This is great example of the mission of In Need of Repairs, although we will tackle the large jobs in the community, our focus is on doing minor repairs that make a big difference in the lives of the citizens in Oklahoma.
As I mentioned earlier, Mohauna has a housekeeping service located in the Oklahoma City Metro, lets show her support by supporting the use of her business, if you or some one you know can use her services contact her at A fresh start  405-326-4332 or on her Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/mohauna
